Hello. I’m thinking of making a proposal for a new group specifically
designed to facilitate easy access and pleasurable use to blind people
using reader software.

This has come about as I’ve seen the well-known blind uk.* user Brian Gaff
semi-regularly offer mild complaints as to the readability of people’s
posts, particularly when threads have raged for days or weeks and there are
replies with loads of quoted content.

So, what I’m thinking is make a new group where the rule is that replies
must be very heavily snipped, with no more than one level of quoted content
(ie; the message that is being replied to). Perhaps even enforce snipping
of everything and top-post (which is more or less how Brian replies).
Whatever works. The group would need to be moderated to ensure that the
rules on posting style are followed, of course.

Interested to hear thoughts, particularly from Brian (cross-posted to d-i-y
to grab his attention. FUs set) or anybody else using reader software.

There's a uk.people.deaf ,so I imagine it would be in the uk.people
hierarchy..

Read "Naming Guidelines For uk.*" Up ^ somewhere.

There hasn't been a post there since 2018. I don't a "uk.people.blind"
group would have many subscribers.

Brian
uk.people.dead has more life (really, it does).

How about an RFD for uk.people.argumentative.moderated and its sister
group uk.net.news.moderation.moderated (both groups with the same mods,
obv)?

I nominate Gareth for Boss Mod of those groups.

Vote Gareth!

Y’see, I’m not sure that’s the right placement, as it’s not a group about
blind people, per se, but a group for everybody that’s designed to be easy
for blind people to read.

Maybe not, but Brian G’s an enthusiastic user of the hierarchy so if he
were to buy into the idea and start using it, it’s perfectly feasible that
people who already chat to him elsewhere will chat to him there.

This would be very welcome for sighted people as well!

Yeah, snipping discipline is pretty poor these days (I am guilty of
this...). A group where snipping is mandatory might well be considered
heaven by many!

A minyan is one such example.
